7 Benefits of A Raw Diet For Your Pet

1. No more allergies

When your pet transitions to a raw diet, their allergic symptoms disappear. This is due to many positive changes, such as the increased water content in raw food and more protein. Kibble is dry and your pet has to drink a lot of water to counter the dehydrating effect of this type of food. Itchy skin is often due to lack of moisture, so pet owners switching to raw see positive results right away. Fillers, preservatives, and by-products in kibble may also trigger allergic reactions for pets. By contrast, the beneficial nutrients, vitamins, and minerals present in raw food are intact and easily absorbed by your pet. And raw food doesn't need additives and fillers because it's all-natural and frozen!

2. Smaller and less stinky stool

This is one benefit we know everyone can appreciate. Because there are no fillers or preservatives in raw food, there is less waste! It's as simple as that. The smell is also more tolerable because the food passes to the other side in 5-7 hours, versus 9-12 hours for kibble. The shorter the passage, the less time it gets to become stinky!

3. No more 'dog breath'

Did you know that your dog's breath is actually not supposed to smell bad? Bad breath is a sign of tooth decay and disease.

Bad dog breath is just an epidemic we've grown accustomed to because that's all we knew... until now. Raw food does an amazing job at cleaning your pet's teeth naturally! When your pet is ripping at meat and raw bones, he's cleaning his teeth at the same time. There is less tartar buildup because the enzymes in his mouth break down the meat much easier than kibble. With less buildup on your pet's teeth, there is less chance of infection and less chance of bad breath!

4. Weight management

Raw food is completely balanced and helps maintain healthy weight. There is zero chance of obesity for a pet on a raw diet because there are no fillers in the food. Having said this, obese pets benefit greatly when switching to a raw diet. The short passage of raw food through the digestive system is the main reason for healthy weight loss. Instead of food sitting in pets' bodies for up to 12 hours, it gets passed in about 5 hours. Cool!

5. Reduced risk of CKD and cancer

CKD (Chronic Kidney Disease) is a serious and fatal illness, which is especially true for cats. CKD manifests itself most often when there is a lack of moisture in pets' food. Raw food prevents the risk of this illness and helps with recovery for pets with CKD. Cancer is also a big issue for pets, but risk for this can be managed with a raw diet. Aside from genetic and other causes, cancer arises when inappropriate ingredients sit in the body for too long. The fillers and chemicals in kibble are not meant for your pet's digestive system. Dogs and cats have fast digestive systems (5 hours), but kibble sits in their stomachs for up to 12 hours at a time.

6. Stronger immune system and more vitality

Pets have a better quality of life on raw. All the live nutrients in raw food give the body what it needs to maintain a healthy flow. Raw food helps regenerate tissue, reduce inflammation, and lubricate joints, to name a few.

7. Saved money and time

No doubt all pet owners would rather spend time with their pets at home rather than at the vet. Many vet visits can be prevented with a proper diet. This not only gives us more time to spend with a healthy and happy pet, but also saves a LOT of money. Here are some of the things raw food helps prevent:

  • Obesity
  • Digestive problems
  • Kidney problems
  • Arthritis
  • Parasites (fleas too!)
  • Constipation
  • Ear infections
  • Itchy skin (allergies)
  • Teeth cleaning
